In a letter from Ken Ham,
President of Answers in Genesis,
Ken writes:
"We entered into a formal working agreement with FWC about four years ago at the urging of our Director of Planned Giving, John Pence (who is also an attorney). John saw the need for what Kardia could provide to us and our major donors.
"I will admit to you: at the time, I was the classic skeptic. I did not initially buy into the approach of trying to minister to our major donors instead of simply looking for ways for them to minister to us. I thought it was just another clever way to get our donors to give more to the ministry. My mistake.
"So with the encouragement of our entire advancement team, I (yes, reluctantly) agreed to work with Kardia and cooperate with their major donor ministry efforts. As the head of the ministry, I did what I was told was necessary but candidly not with much enthusiasm … or genuine belief that it would make any difference.
"I was somewhat impatient, too, to be told by Kardia that it takes time for Kardia to work with donors (often as much as a year from beginning to end), so as I expected, I did not see immediate results from the work that was commencing.
"Then, however, the letters from our major donors started to come in one by one. Then, we began seeing new gifts coming in from these donors—gifts we would not have even known how to ask for … nor would they have known how to give without the help of the “Master Stewardship Planning” that Kardia did for them.
"Most recently, I had the privilege of personally receiving a check for $1 million from one of our major donors to our ministry! The largest donation check he had ever given prior to that was $10,000. This donor credits the work of Kardia not only with showing him how he could make that gift, but challenging him to do so.
"So, I have come full circle from being one of Kardia's greatest skeptics to being one of their greatest supporters! Jay and his staff have done everything they said they were going to do with—and for—our ministry, and they have gone far beyond anything we would have ever initially imagined.
"We plan to continue to refer all major donors we can to Kardia so they can minister to them in ways that are far beyond anything we could ever do on our own.
"So, I recommend them without reservation to your ministry and to your major donors."

Several years ago, I gave Jay Link’s book Family Wealth Counseling: Getting to the Heart of the Matter to a friend of the university.
I was not certain that this family needed counsel regarding wealth management and business succession issues. In fact, they already had estate and business succession plans in place.
However, they had not clearly recognized the potentially troublesome issues that were just beginning to surface. I am sure that the family (an extended family of several siblings with their own families) would never have fully discussed these issues with me, in spite of our good relationship. They may not have been able to articulate on their own the potential problems or their hearts’ desires - and I certainly would not have been able to adequately address their complete needs.
Jay’s Family Wealth Counseling book led them to invite him out for a family consultation, which led to them working with Jay and Kardia, Inc. to develop a Master Stewardship Plan for their business and their entire extended family.
That plan has now been in operation for several years. I have asked each family unit about their experience and their level of satisfaction with the work that Jay’s firm has done for the family. The responses have been 100% positive, expressed in glowing terms. These friends are grateful for my role as facilitator in introducing them to Jay and the Kardia staff.
All members of the family are younger than retirement age. However, they recently presented to the university a very generous gift. A gift of this size does not often come from people their ages. The Kardia staff was instrumental in helping them structure this generous gift.
Most rewarding to me is the joy of knowing that my gift of Jay’s book initiated a relationship with Kardia that has helped a family relationally, financially, and possibly most importantly, spiritually.
